Have questions about your garage door? Here are answers to some of the most common inquiries we receive.
Loud grinding or squeaking usually indicates dry rollers, worn hinges, or loose hardware. If you hear a loud banging sound, it is likely a broken torsion spring. Lubricating the moving parts with a specialized silicone or lithium garage door spray can help, but if the noise persists or is accompanied by uneven movement, a professional inspection is recommended to prevent further damage or safety issues.
No, we strongly advise against DIY spring replacement. Garage door springs operate under extreme tension. If they snap or are released incorrectly during replacement, they can cause severe injury, death, or major property damage. Specialized winding bars and technical training are required to replace springs safely. Leave this task to our licensed technicians.
If your opener is making loud grinding sounds, operates intermittently, or fails to open the door despite the motor running, it may require repair (such as gear replacements). However, if your opener is over 10-15 years old, lacks modern rolling code security, or does not have functional safety sensors, we recommend upgrading to a new smart, quiet belt-driven opener with battery backup for enhanced security and reliability.
This is almost always a safety sensor issue. Check the two small photo-eye sensors located near the bottom corners of your garage door tracks. Ensure they are facing each other, clean, and not blocked by toys, brooms, or cobwebs. One sensor should have a solid green light and the other solid amber/red. If they are misaligned, gently adjust them by hand until both indicator lights shine steadily. If that doesn't work, contact us for sensor replacement or wiring repair.
